The Octogon is situated in the volcanic province of the Stony Rises on Gunditjmara Country, traditional lands of the Eastern Maar Nation people.
The eight-sided off-grid building has been constructed from sedimentary basalt rock from the landscape left by the eruption of Mt Porndon at the end of the road.
This light-filled space with a high ceiling and cosy wood fire feels like a warm hug. A comfortable and cosy bohemian retreat- a space to rest, restore and connect. You can pop a kettle on top of the wood fire or a dish in its oven.
Adjacent to the building is a simple to use an eco-friendly compost toilet and hand basin.
There is a well-equipped communal bush kitchen with gas burners, cooking pots & pans, crockery & utensil, cooking oil,s&p, a selection of herbal teas, and eski – BYO ice. The space features alfresco dining and a bush bar with a view and a communal hot shower.
In the communal outdoor space, there is a fire pit, seating, hammocks, and decor lighting creating a magical romantic vibe. No streetlight pollution here just twinkling starscapes!
The landscape of undulating terrain and remnant bushland is home to a healthy population of native animals and birdlife. There is a 5km loop track perfect for a wildlife-spotting walk. Nocturnal nightlife discovery walks by torchlight are a guest favourite around here. Day trips to the Great Ocran Road Beaches, Otways National Park, Otway Harvest Trail, Twelve Apostles, Mountains, waterfalls, and local crater lakes for a spot of fishing are popular adventures with our guests.
