The Octogon is located in the volcanic region of the Stony Rises on the ancestral lands of the Eastern Maar Nation people.
This unique eight-sided off-grid structure has been meticulously crafted using sedimentary basalt rock sourced from the local landscape, remnants of the ancient eruption of Mt Porndon.
Step inside this bright and airy space with its lofty ceiling and comforting wood-burning fireplace, and you’ll instantly feel embraced by its warmth. It’s a welcoming bohemian sanctuary—a place to relax, rejuvenate, and foster connections. You can easily prepare a hot beverage on the stove or cook a delicious meal in the oven.
Adjacent to the building, you’ll find an environmentally friendly compost toilet and a convenient hand basin.
Furthermore, we offer a well-equipped shared outdoor kitchen with gas burners, cooking pots and pans, dinnerware and utensils, cooking oil, salt and pepper, an assortment of herbal teas, and an eski (cooler) for your use—please bring your own ice. The outdoor area provides a charming setting for dining under the open sky, complete with a bush bar and a breathtaking view. Additionally, there is a communal hot shower available.
In the shared outdoor space, you can enjoy a cozy fire pit, comfortable seating, relaxing hammocks, and enchanting decorative lighting that creates a romantic and magical ambiance. Take a leisurely 5km loop walk and spot wildlife along the way—it’s a popular choice among our guests. For a unique nocturnal adventure, guests love joining guided torchlight walks to discover the region’s captivating nightlife. Additionally, you can embark on day trips to explore the stunning Great Ocean Road Beaches, Otways National Park, Otway Harvest Trail, Twelve Apostles, mountains, waterfalls, and local crater lakes for fishing excursions.
